Kickstarter! We’re on Our Way to Raising a Real Budget!

20 Feb

Okay guys, this is exciting!

And you can say that you were there from the very beginning!

Last week we applied for a kickstarter account… and we were approved!  From their site

“Kickstarter is the world’s largest funding platform for creative projects. Every week, tens of thousands of amazing people pledge millions of dollars to projects from the worlds ofmusic, film, art, technology, design, food, publishing and other creative fields.

A new form of commerce and patronage. This is not about investment or lending. Project creators keep 100% ownership and control over their work. Instead, they offer products and experiences that are unique to each project.”

Yesterday and today we’ve been working on our video proposal.  Right now we are working with stuff we already happened to own (a 7 year old video camera that is on its last legs, my hubby has already had to take it apart and put it back together several times), a half way decent microphone that my hubby got through his distributors, a $70.00 lighting set that I bought on Amazon and what equals about $200.00 for the puppet that I made myself… as well as some canvas, bookshelves and probably another $100.00 in paint and set supplies.

Besides the fact that we’re working in our living room (which is about 12X12), and having to move pretty much everything out of the way and spend quite a bit of time setting up lights each week, the accoustics aren’t quite right, and honestly, we need a set to do this right so that Bean can move around, and my old lady knees aren’t killing me for hours after sitting on the floor for filming days each week.

During the week, this is our set... packed up behind our couch.

We’re looking at a budget between $10,000.00 & $15,000.00 (Patrick is still working out the numbers and researching the best and most economical options).  That will cover 6 months worth of space rental (which should be fairly cheap around here in rural Oklahoma), new professional lighting equipment, video editing software, probably a used but professional quality camera, set building supplies and a couple new puppets (that I already have pictured and designed in my head!:)

Oh, and some good drawing supplies for Paris, my illustrator, who is going to illustrate the children’s book I wrote to go along with Bean and his new *coming soon* friends!

So, are you excited for us?  I’ll keep you up to date on the kickstarter fundraising.  We’ll have 30-45 days to raise all of the funds we need.  Kickstarter is an all or nothing venture.  If we don’t raise our goal figure, then all of the money gets refunded.  I’m so excited, though, because I know this has great potential to be BIG!  Check back often, as I’ll be updating you as I learn more!

And once again, thank you friends… I can’t do this without your support!
