A Wedding, A Cake, Family and A Break

22 Oct

Okay, I hadn’t planned on taking a break this week, but life has interfered a little bit.

My oldest daughter, Sprite is getting married on Sunday and I am making her cake.

Here is Sprite, my oldest, teaching Bean how to juggle.

I’ve decorated cakes before, but this is my first wedding cake (so yeah, I’m a little stressed) and in addition to that, we’re of course going to be having company in the form of several out of state relatives coming over.

That means I need to get busy and actually finish some more of these in progress house projects we have going.  Paris and I are working on finishing up The Avengers Custom Painted Bathroom.  I am painting the kitchen, Patrick is putting up the cool tiles for the back splash, and we finished our pink and brown deck this weekend.

My Favorite Deck EVER!:)

So, to tide you over in case I don’t find time for filming this week, here is a video of my aforementioned oldest daughter teaching Bean How to Juggle for Kids.

I’d love to hear what you’d like to see on the show in the coming months!

Youtube News for Bean’s Monkey Business

9 Jul

After two months of the stress of MOVING (and no, we haven’t even closed yet) and some health issues that have come up for me, causing even MORE stress…

I just happened to look at Bean’s Monkey Business youtube channel last night. I have 10,000 views. Well, last night it was CLOSE, but today it’s actually OVER 10K.

My silly little stop motion animation of the Old MacDonald Had a Farm has over 5,000 views. 4,337 of those views are from the last 30 days!

I discovered that around June 17th, my daily view count went from 40-50 to over 300 almost every day, consistently. And I haven’t even uploaded new content for TWO MONTHS!

I went and monetized a few of the more popular videos with all original content because Paris monetized hers and made $25.00 fairly quickly.

I CAN NOT WAIT TO MOVE AND GET FILMING AGAIN!!! I am getting really excited about having a real puppet set so that Bean can “walk” and move from room to room. I have some super exciting ideas about making sleeves with “Bean’s” hands/gloves on the end, so that for B roll footage, Abyni can put her hands in the sleeves and it will allow us to have Bean do more things with his hands. Count on his fingers, play with play dough, paint, hold someone’s hand on a field trip, etc.  Won’t that be FUN???

I would so love for this to be something that becomes a source of income for us at some point.

I am also really looking forward to doing more live shows.

Anyway, just a weird, random thing that I suddenly decided to look at.

I can’t wait to get back to having fun with my girls and Bean!!!

Miss me yet? You can ALSO find me here…

Hey all, I know I haven’t been around much lately, but there is still so much going on!

With the move, I’ve started several fun art and home decor projects that you might want to check out on our family blog The Always Family & Whatnot.  It will include things like birthday party ideas, home decorating, artwork, shopping trips, DIY projects and some homeschooling things.  Basically, everything other than cooking and Bean’s Monkey Business stuff.

365 Days of Clean Eating is my foodie blog.  I don’t post every day, but I am posting again and there are a TON of recipes already there.  I am going to be trying the “Once a Month Cooking” thing right before we move (unless our closing date gets moved up) and I’ll definitely be posting all about that!

So, there you have it, if you want  to keep up with our family even when Bean isn’t necessarily involved, that’s how!  Oh!  Speaking of which, we’ll be making some cooking videos with Bean as a crossover between my cooking blog and this one to show you fun recipes to cook with your kids!

Talk to you later!

It’s SO DIFFICULT!!! I am not a techie… Cameras

14 May

I realize that I am not a techie type.  Never have been.  But this new camera is kick our butts over here.  We have figured out the very basics, but now that we have a new camera and new microphones, it is SO difficult to figure out how to make everything work together.  It is taking us a lot longer to get anything done, and its making our video uploads sporadic and my viewers are going way down because of it.  I need to get on the ball.

You can’t argue with the quality factor though.  Just look at the difference between our old camera videos and our new ones.  The old ones, that I thought looked fine now look all washed out.  Plus, I can upload the new videos as HD every time.  Now we just have to get our sound issues worked out.

You can watch them and see the difference… nothing short of amazing.

Here is Bean and Paris trying to learn how to say their ABCs.

And this was one of our earlier videos, when we didn’t have much in the way of microphones or lighting equipment.

Wow.  So, that’s it in a nutshell.  Unfortunately, our equipment woes came just in time for my first facebook promotion… so I suppose I’ll have to try again later.

Oh, and BTW, this is our new camera!

Friday Funnies: Dangerous Boys… and Dads? Explosions and All Those Things Your Mother Never Let You Do

4 May

My son Jaedin is a good kid. He’s 15, he is self motivated, ambitious and does his chores pretty much all of the time now without being asked. He’s my science geek, A.D.D. to the max (although it seems that we’ve either found ways to help him with it, or he’s learned to compensate, because its gotten remarkably better as he’s gotten older!) and really into Air Soft. He actually runs a business buying broken Air Soft guns, then fixes and resells them at a profit.

As with many boys, he has always been intrigued by how things work. He’s taken apart all of our old broken electronic equipment, researched any way to blow things up or make things more powerful. He’s like the boy version of Tim, the Tool Man Taylor on Home Improvement.

Anyway, as you may know, my daughter Paris has a youtube channel and it is doing REALLY well. She has even started making money from it. Now Jaedin wants to start a channel. He’s been trying to think of the best kind of channel and the other day he had a sudden epiphany.

Yeah, a real conversation at The Always House.

So, as you can see, he comes by it honestly.  Thankfully, my husband is very intelligent in the realm of techie things, so I’m trusting him to make sure that Jaedin doesn’t blow up the house!

Our First Official Public Outing!

23 Apr

Saturday morning Paris, Abyni and I took Bean to the Great Diaper Change in Tulsa.  There were a LOT of moms, babies and younger kids there.

At first they had me standing behind the desk, but most of the kids couldn't see.

Bean had a great time meeting all the kids!  The kids of all ages just LOVED playing peek-a-boo.  I couldn’t believe it, but even after an hour, if we didn’t do a countdown and peek-a-book the older kids would ask for it again and again.  It was awesome, because even the little babies knew to cover their eyes and say “BOO!”  It was just adorable!!

The two older kids in this photo were right next to Bean almost the entire two hours!

There were about 4 kids who stayed nearby, a couple RIGHT next to Bean almost the entire two hours.  I couldn’t believe how long they stayed interested!!  They just sat there and chatted with him, played games and just chattered on as though I wasn’t even there!

It was a bit chaotic, since we had never done this before AND my husband wasn’t there, but I think it went well.  There were a few times when I had to make the bigger kids back up so that the younger interested babies could step up.  I also had to keep a few young kids from pulling on Bean’s ears and tail.

Mostly, though, it was just a positive experience.  I was surprised that hardly any of the kids paid ANY attention to me.  As a matter of fact, they would always look surprised if I talked to them in my normal voice.

I’m glad we went, and we learned a lot for next time.  Now I need to get a hold of some libraries and different local places so we can do more live shows, as well as some special filming.  I’m hoping to do a tour of the library with my favorite children’s librarian and a tour of Safari Joe’s Reptile World.

Any other ideas for good, child friendly tours?  What would your child enjoy seeing?

Meet the Misfits: Hi, I’m Byn from Bean’s Monkey Business… Getting to Know You, Getting to Know allllll About You…

Meet the Misfits!

Hey guys!  Today I’m doing a little something extra.  I’m part of a group of bloggers called the Misfit Bloggers.  We all met through a SITS 31 Days to a Better Blog challenge that I found through the Blog Frog forums.  Most (if not all) of us don’t really ‘fit’ into your typical blog categories.

Today you get to meet the misfits!

Who Am I?  Me?  I’m writing a blog about a purple monkey, for Pete’s sake.  (Who IS this Pete guy, anyway?)  I talk like a cartoon monkey (when I want to, anyway) and I’m random.  Just a little.  Okay, a lot.  And I sing.  A lot.  Here is my intro video for us Misfit Bloggers.  Its just 3 minutes long, go ahead, watch it and get to know the REAL person behind Bean the monkey!

I am married to an amazingly supportive husband, who has not only supported me through a lot of BIG projects because that’s just what I wanted to do, but he has also supported tirelessly for the last 18 years through a lot of struggles with depression/bipolar and other issues (I’m a veritable alphabet soup of issues, I’m telling you).  I love him and appreciate him… and sometimes feel sorry for him.  Yeah, because I’m really REALLY high maintenance.  He says its all worth it, but… eh, I think he’s a little bit biased because he loves me that much.  Oh well, I’ll take it.

My honey and I at the park with the kids last night. Photo courtesy of our new camera and Paris' mad picture taking skills:)

What do I do?  I am a puppeteer, I do the voice of Bean for Bean’s Monkey Business, a new children’s educational web series. I am a mom to five kids that I love more than I could have imagined.  They are 11, 14, 15, 16 & 20 at the moment and they are SO freaking entertaining… I will show you with pictures.  Our oldest recently moved away from home and out of state, so she wasn’t here last night when we took our epic spontaneous family night at the park.  Have I mentioned that my family is super competitive?

Why do I blog?  To share my show and so much of what I’ve learned raising and homeschooling my five kids.  I loved doing projects and learning with them when they were little, and I love sharing that with the new ‘little ones’ without having to have more kids myself!  I’m going to turn into an internet Grandma!

Misfit Monday Blog Hop

Just a few of the "Misfits"

A few of my Fellow Misfits:

  • Cari from Nighlon writes… well, I would call it a pink sparkly techie blog.  She’s probably the last person I’d expect to be a techie geek, but that lady knows her business, glittery stillettos or not!
