Stop Motion Animation: Hey Diddle Diddle w/Free Printable Coloring Pages for Kids

6 Nov

So here is the set up for our stop motion animation.  The lighting issue is far different than it is with shooting live shows with Bean, but thankfully, my husband rocks and sets it up for me.

Without further ado, here is our little stop motion short for Hey Diddle Diddle!

Here is the free printable coloring page, so that your child can make their own “Hey Diddle Diddle” picture!  coloring-page-diddle

A Wedding, A Cake, Family and A Break

22 Oct

Okay, I hadn’t planned on taking a break this week, but life has interfered a little bit.

My oldest daughter, Sprite is getting married on Sunday and I am making her cake.

Here is Sprite, my oldest, teaching Bean how to juggle.

I’ve decorated cakes before, but this is my first wedding cake (so yeah, I’m a little stressed) and in addition to that, we’re of course going to be having company in the form of several out of state relatives coming over.

That means I need to get busy and actually finish some more of these in progress house projects we have going.  Paris and I are working on finishing up The Avengers Custom Painted Bathroom.  I am painting the kitchen, Patrick is putting up the cool tiles for the back splash, and we finished our pink and brown deck this weekend.

My Favorite Deck EVER!:)

So, to tide you over in case I don’t find time for filming this week, here is a video of my aforementioned oldest daughter teaching Bean How to Juggle for Kids.

I’d love to hear what you’d like to see on the show in the coming months!

Bean Plays Outside! Let’s Play Cars and Learn the Lava Game!

17 Oct

Next week we’ll be back to ‘studio’ shows, but today through Friday, we’ll be having more “outdoors” shows.  Next week I hope to kick off with a new song about imagination that is really catchy and fun… hopefully Sylvie and I can get together this weekend and film/record it!

The kids had fun drawing roads and scenery for their game

When my kids were younger, they loved playing games like “The Lava Game”.  The game where you pretend that different areas of the floor or a room are lava and you have to jump from spot to spot without touching the “lava”.  It has been interesting for me this week… going back through memories of the kids playing when they were little and all of the imaginary things they played.  Bean, Abyni & Jay show the kids how to play the “lava” game, and if they already play this game, I think it will be fun for them to see that Bean plays it, too!

Don’t let the grass touch you!

The video also has Bean, Paris, Abyni & Jay playing with sidewalk chalk and cars on the front walk.   My boys loved playing with trains rather than cars (although they did like cars, they were far more obsessed with Thomas the Tank Engine:), and they loved drawing big long roads everywhere.  Including the time we moved to a rental house with light carpets… and they took their crayons and markers and drew roads all over their new bedroom.  *Sigh*  At least they were being creative, I guess?

Here is today’s video of Bean’s ‘Real Life’ playtime:  Playing with Cars and Playing the Lava Game!

Outside Imagination! Let’s Play fun Outdoor Games: Tag, Hide and Seek and Draw with Sidewalk Chalk!

16 Oct

Abyni chases Bean during a fast game of Tag!

Today I’m posting video of Bean and the girls playing with sidewalk chalk, playing tag and playing hide and seek.

With these videos, we’re trying to give kids a peek into Bean’s “real life” treating them like home movies rather than a “show”.  Its fun, and seems like it should be LESS work, but in reality, its a LOT more work, especially when it comes to editing the video for the final product.

I hope your kids enjoy watching Bean play different games and that they are inspired to play, too!

Imagination & Costumes or Dress Up? Make-up Tutorials for Princesses & Zombies!

15 Oct

I know there are many opinions on Halloween, but whether or not you agree with celebrating that holiday, there is no question that kids love to play dress up and pretend.  My kids have always enjoyed dressing up and pretending to be someone or something else, regardless of the day or time of year.

How I wish I still had the photo of my husband with Sprite’s plastic princess crown and dangly clip on earrings!!!  You know that photo would be posted everywhere by now!:)

The boys as Jedi Knights for a Costume Party

Abyni as Snow White

Paris as Punky Brewster

Here I am, dressed as Cruella DeVille with the boys. I think Kainan was the Matrix dude and Jaedin was The Crocodile Hunter

Now the kids are older, and boy have they stepped up their game.  Paris is doing youtube tutorials for Halloween this year and she learned some amazing techniques for Zombie makeup as well as doing some really fun “Princess” type tutorials as well.  Check out Paris’ Makeup Youtube Channel.

The other night, the three youngest kids went to a Monster Bash Costume Party and left the house looking like THIS:

CREEPTASTIC!

If you’re more of the horror movie genre of costuming, you’ll love this “Zombie” style makeup tutorial:

Bloopers and the Fun of Being a Puppet

10 Oct

Paris and Abyni cracking up when Paris’ phone rang in the middle of filming.

One of my favorite things about any movie/tv show is the blooper reel.  I love seeing the ‘real’ people come out and laugh at themselves.

Its time for bloopers again.  In part because Abyni and Patrick (our camera and lighting guy and all around amazing husband:) are sick.  Plus the fact that in spite of the sick, Patrick worked a nearly 14 hour day yesterday because of the people who called in ‘sick’ on the heaviest day of the week for mail (coupon day and the day after a holiday).  I was not thrilled to see him feeling so crappy last night:(

Anyway, because Abyni has spent the day coughing, and Patrick is up for another long day at work, I decided to work on artwork for another stop motion animation AND upload the blooper reel for some laughs.

Here Paris and Abyni are cracking up over Abyni making a silly face when she didn’t think the camera was on yet.

Running Bean’s Monkey Business is a lot of work.  It really takes a LOT of my time. Often the girls have to film when they might want to be doing something else, or they’re not in the mood… but they do it anyway because we’re all very invested in making this work and become something big.

However, MOST of the time it is just plain FUN.  Even if we’re not in the mood when we start (I’ve been dealing with some pretty hardcore depression these past several months), once we get going and Bean is here, we all just relax and have fun with it.  I could have the same amount of bloopers and laughter videos as I do “real” videos because we are continually cracking each other up, making a silly mistake or just laughing at something goofy that someone did.

Here is Abyni cracking up because Paris (who is on a rolling ‘bed’ with Bean) keeps bumping into her chair when she tries to ‘walk’ bean around her.

I hope you can enjoy laughing with us (or at us) as you watch our most recent blooper video.  I am truly blessed to have a “job” that I love so much… even if it doesn’t pay anything yet!

Flutterby, a Butterfly Lullaby for a Restful Naptime

25 Sep

A wonderful musician friend of mine offered to let us use this song that she wrote last year. The second that I heard it, I pictured butterflies, made of paper, gently fluttering in the wind.  The image was SO clear, that I immediately started working on the artwork.  I used pages from an old book, cut into the shapes of butterflies.  We mounted them with fishing line to some dowels and went outside to film.

One downside to living in Oklahoma, its hard to find a beautiful CALM spring breeze.  Over the next week, it seemed that the only time we had time to film, the camera was down, the wind was blowing too hard or it was too dark.

*Sigh*  As life happened, my vision for the video failed more than a little… and then we moved.  Sadly the paper butterflies didn’t make it, and never got to see the light of day.

Fast forward to yesterday, as I listened to the song again and got inspired again.  Unfortunately, it took several tries, several failed attempts, literally over 300 photos that wouldn’t work… we finally ended up using beads.  Nearly 2,000 beads, countless HOURS sitting and moving them by little increments, until I had over 400 photos… creating this as the end result.  I hope you like it, and that your child is mesmerized and ready for a nap afterwards!

My work space (I spent WAY too many hours at this table!)

Take a look at what we came up with.  Its a stop motion animation and I know you’ll love this song as much as we do!  A lullaby video for naptime!

Thank you to Sylvie Lynn!!  You can find her other music on her Myspace Page.
